strabismus surgery

I am 24 and have had strabismus since I was three.  I have 20/20 vision in my left eye, but have very poor vision in my right eye which turns inward noticably.  I did not have any surgeries to correct this as a child. As an uninsured college student I am wondering about the costs of strabismus surgery, and whether surgery will effect the vision in my dominant eye.  As a stubborn kid I stopped wearing glasses years ago and have just adjusted to the way I see.  I got a prescription for contacts recently, but have had trouble focusing with and adjusting to them.  Why?

1. Strabismus surgery will not help the amblyopic eye see better.
2. Your children and grandchildren will have a 20% chance of having the same problem.
3. You will need to discuss the contact lens problem with whomever fit them.
4. the costs of surgery will vary from one part of the country to another so I can't give an estimate.
