10 year old with macular drusen

An optometrist noticed macular drusen in my 10 year old's eyes (both eyes) she has been refered to a retinal specialist but her appointment is not for a few weeks. Do the presence of these drusen mean that she has macular dystrophy or are there any more benign reasons why she might have these flecks on her macula?

It is most likely things will be just fine and that the child has "hard drusen" which do not indicate disease or a likelyhood of developing macular degeneration. The ones that are a problem are soft drusen
