Corneal crosslinking demonstrates good one-year results in keratoconus
This prospective study randomized 58 patients (71 eyes) with keratoconus or post-LASIK corneal ectasia to corneal collagen crosslinking or sham. A fellow-eye control group was also analyzed. At one year, the maximum K value improved significantly in the keratoconus group, showing a 2.0 D flattening effect compared with no significant change in the fellow-eye group. A smaller change of 1 D occurred in the ectasia group, which failed to reach statistical significance. Mean UDVA and CDVA also improved. Both CDVA and maximum K value worsened between baseline and one month, followed by improvement up to six months and stabilization thereafter. Journal of Cataract & Refractive Surgery, January 2011
