We have a six year old who was prescribed glasses for nearsightedness and astigmatism at 5! She hasn't wanted to wear her glasses for the last few months as she states she can see fine. She had her yearly checkup yesterday and her prescription is
OD. -1.00 +1.50 095
O.S. -0.50 +1.25 095
Her initial prescription was
O.D. -1.00 +1.50 90
O.S. -0.50 +1.00 90
Her eye doctor indicates she needs to wear glasses all day everyday, just want to make sure that is really needed as it is a struggle for us to get her to wear them! Will her astigmatism be corrected with wearing her eye glasses daily and can her vision get worse if she isn't a consistent glasses wearer.
I really can't answer that because it depends on a lot of information you probably don't know. 1. What is vision with and without glasses 2. What is the full cycloplegic refraction 3. How reliable is the refraction 4. Is their a family history of strabismus or amblyopia 5. How much psychological trauma is this causing her.
If you have access to a pediatric ophthalmologist for a second opinion that would be very helpful.
