Iris Question

Iris Question

Yesterday I noticed that my 6 year old son has a discoloration of his iris. His eyes are brown and his right eye has two colors. If you imagine a clock: from the 12 to the 9 it is dark brown like his other eye, but from the 9 to the 12 it is distinctly lighter. It looks like someone took a chunk (1/4) of his eye color out.  I don't know if this is "neat" or a potential problem. If anyone has any ideas or info PLEASE let me know.

Iris that are different color in each eye is called "heterochromia". It can, but not always, be a sign of a problem with in the eye (odds are it isn't). He should see an Eye MD ophthalmologist. Ask the techs to have the Eye MD look at the iris BEFORE they are dilated.  Find an Eye MD at www.aao.org
