Left eye cannot open

My concern is for my son.  He is 28 and drives a trash truck.  He has had some bizarre illnesses as you can imagine.  Currently, his left eye lid is shut.  He cannot open it at all. His eye visibly moves under the lid, as his right eye moves.  He was hospitalized for 4 days while several tests were run. CT, MRI and and MRI with contrast. Nothing.  He saw neurologists and opthamologists but none could come up with a diagnosis, prognosis, etc.  What they decided is maybe it is a virus or (this surprises me) stress.  His eye has been shut for two weeks. He cannot open it at all unless he pulls it open.  

I am wondering if anyone has heard of this - he had nothing in his eye, no irritants, chemicals, nothing.  Does anyone have any suggestions or point me in some direction?   [Less]
