Shrinking eye! Genetic?

when my husband was born he was diagnosed with double cataract. at six months he had surgury to correct this problem. His eye then started shrinking and needed to be removed when he was almost three. Does anyone have any idea as to why his eye shrunk, dont know if the cataracts and the shrinking are related. We dont know any more information than that but as i am 26 weeks pregnant need answers to wether this could be genetic.

The shrinking was caused by unsuccessful surgery.  I believe ( I am not an expert in this area) many congenital cataracts are not from a genetic origin.
