Silicone oil eye pressure

Silicone oil eye pressure

I have Silicone Oil in my eye after a 2nd operation to repair my Retina in August 2010.  The Surgeon said the pressure in my eye was 23 when it should be 20.  I have been prescribed Xalatan eye drops to use at night to reduce the pressure.  My next appointment is in January 2011.  It is a long time to go without having the pressure checked which is worrying me.  Can anyone explain eye pressure to me please ?  What makes the pressure go up and down ?  My eye aches a lot and I keep worrying if the pressure may be too high or maybe even too low !

Normal eye pressure is 15.  One become concerned about a pressure over 20.  The treatment with Xalatan is appropriate.  However,  I would recheck the pressure in a few weeks to make sure Xalatan works.
