can a post cataract surgery cause a macular hole

Dear Sir,
Had cataract surgery performed on both eyes on the 22nd and 29th May 2010. All went well till about a month ago, when I noticed that my right eye was weaker. The specialist that performed my operation examined my right eye and informed me that I developed a macular hole, and has now refered me to another specialist to perfom a vitrectomy.
Is the macular hole the direct cause of my cataract surgery. Prior to my cataract surgery both my eyes had normal pressure, and although wearing glasses I have had no problems with pressure or vision,
Thank you,
Raymond

Cannot tell for sure. Sometimes the hole is there before surgery but can't be seen due to the cataract. Once the cataract is removed the surgeon can see the back of the eye better and hole is seen. Sometimes it can be the result of surgery especially if macular edema develops and remains for months and months.
