high myopia

by JohnDoe0000, Nov 18, 2008 02:16AM
I am a 30 years old male who has been wearning glasses since the age of 12. On my last visit to the doctor I found out that my myopia has reached the -7.0 point in both eyes. I was under the impression that mypoia stops getting worse after a certain age, but that is not true in my case. I was wondering if this is normal and how bad can it get? is there a chance that it will stop progressing?

It really depends on what your "old" presecription was. If it was -6.75 that's not much of a change. If it was -5.0 that's quite a big.

Myopia usually stops but in high myopia of pathological myopia is can increase through out life and people have posted here that were glasses of -18.00

You should see a Eye MD ophthalmologist and let him/her look in your eyes to see if you have any myopic problems on your retina.

Also if you wore contacts you would see a lot better and you might be a candidate for LASIK depending on the thickness of your corneas.
