Hi Yvette,
I know that acupuncture is $$$. If you have insurance inquiry about which Doctors office offers acupuncture with a co-pay. I know in Miami-Dade County, FL if you have the following insurance with high option you should qualify: Av Med, Cigna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna and United Health care to name a few.
Hi, Wow! this thread has gotten really long! I just thought I would share a statistic that I found on a website about acupuncture for fertility. Sorry I cant remember which one but if you search for info...you'll find success stories. It said,
...A German study done in 2002 showed that of the 80 women who underwent IVF and received acupuncture, 34 women got pregnant, a success rate of 42.5%. Of the 80 women involved in the study who received IVF without any acupuncture treatments, only 21 women (26.3%) became pregnant. More recently, an American study involving 114 women showed that 51% of the women who had acupuncture and IVF treatments became pregnant versus only 36% of the women who had IVF alone. Deeper analysis of this study revealed that, while 8% of the women in the acupuncture group miscarried, the rate of miscarriage in the IVF-only group was 20%. Furthermore, women who received acupuncture also had lower rates of ectopic pregnancies...
From research done, it looks like it really does work...especially for Ivf. That, and the acupuncture that took my husbands allergies away, is what encouraged me to look into it for fertility. Ive read that it generates blood flow to the reproductive organs which sounds pretty good. Anyway, I think its worth trying it for awhile...if nothing else to increase general well being and health! Baby dust to all!!
I hear ya, I spent $80 on an ovulation detector kit, just to find that it was a microscope...which I already had, I bought the microscope at a garage sale for $5 and it does the same thing.
There is always the little voice in the back of my head that says "you have to do everything you can" currently I am spending approx $280 cnd including accup. and gym memb. on becomming a healthier me, with nothing to show for it, but a firmer butt :) There comes a time when you just have to say enough, and look at other options. It's hard to know exactly when that is thou.
Yeah..that makes sense. I guess I'm just tire of spending $$ here and there. I feel like I'm getting nickled and dimed and end up with nada! I've had it!

It depends on your diagnosis, my acu doc has charts of the acu meridians so you can see why they put them where they do. It would be more helpful if I could read chinese, but it does outline the parts of the body that the meridian lines affect. Everyone not everyone is the same, so treatment will vary.
I also had my first acupuncture treatment yesterday. I was so nervous, but it was good. I had 11 needles on my front side, on my belly, feet, ankle, at the bend of my knee in the back, hands, arms, neck and top of my head on my scalp, then after he took them out, I flipped over and had about 6 in my neck and along the top of my spine. They didn't hurt at all, it was relaxing, the only thing is, I started to have itches on my face, I know this is just becaue I couldn't (or shouldn't) move to scratch it :) I hope it works!
don't you guys think it's odd that the acupuncturist are putting them in different parts>
Mine put 3 in each hand. One near my elbows. One on top of my head, one on my forehead, about 6 in my belly, and some near my feet and mid-calfs.
I know they vary where they put them on each person. Each probably has a different approach. There's different ways to regulate different things. When I went for my circulation problems, they switched them up with each treatment. Also, if they were treating something else at the same time, they often switched where the needles went.
What I am trying to say is that they aren't putting the needles in the same places as everyone.
Should everyone have basically the same protocol? Do you think this works? I am skeptical. I went twice and I lost the baby (chemical pregnancy). I'm not sure if I am going to go back.
Hello, I just had my first acupuncture today for infertility. My fertility doc who is supposed to be one of the best in the country said we don't know why acupunture works, but it does. Anyway, the acupuncturist did not put the needles in my stomach because I told her I did not know for sure if I was pregnant or not. I suppose it's possible since I was just on Clomid for the Clomid challenge. Anyway, they do not put the needles in your stomach if you might already be pregnant. She said my stomach was warm, so she did not need to put the burning herb on my stomach and only put it on my feed which were a little cold. If your stomach is cold, that can be a sign of poor blood flow in the area. The acupuncture did not hurt at all and even if it doesn't work for fertility, it sure was relaxing!
wow ladies... even i am thinking about starting it, once i read all ur posts, i am more convinced that i should.
is anyone in NJ area, was just looking for a few here.... it puts ur mind at ease when u know someone has already tried in one place, and more comfortable to go there.
all the best ladies... i really hope all of us get BFP's!!!
Yeah that could be why you didnt get any in your stomach. He mentioned something about how he is going to put some in my legs next time. I also forgot to mention that right now he is treating me for stress and trying to regulate my cycles so that could also be why.
That's interesting. Maybe that's why she didn't put them in my stomach. I was already past ovulation when I went in. I will ask her about how acupuncture works at different times of the cycle. I really hope it helps my IVF to work. I just started the acupunctre, and I will be just finishing up my IVF in about six or seven weeks.
I have been going for accupuncture for about three months, I do feel there are positives to the procedure. My understanding is that there are only certain times of the month that they can work on your fertility. the days between day one and ovulation is when they should use the needles on your stomach, also, my doc. puts a box on my belly that is burning some sort of herb that heats up my stomach...apparently the heat is good during that time.
I am also taking some herbal meds for the pain. Everything she has given me has worked...
I went for my first ever acupuncture appointment last week and mine was great also. It really didn't hurt, but mine didn't put any in my stomach. Mine specializes in infertility too, but I'm wondering why she didn't. You would think that would be where she would put them. She put them in my wrists, ankle area, ears and one on my upper stomach area. I really hope it works out for us. Good luck. I have my next one tomorrow morning!
