Did anyone see House tonight

There was an episode with a patient who had all of the symptoms of fibromyalgia. He tried to kill himself because the pain was getting too severe and he did not want to live like that. Dr. House hospitalized him and was determined as always to find out what was going on with him. The patient had completely clean MRIs, which excluded most neurological diseases. They even did a procedure to numb him from his brain stem cell all the way down his spine to see if the pain was coming from the brain or the peripheral nerves. At first they were unsuccessful and the patient was committed to dying. I cried during this episode because I could truly feel the patient's pain in not really knowing what was wrong with him. His family (wife and child) had gotten to the point that they were settled with the idea of him dying because they did not want to see him have to live in so much pain. Well, Dr. House did not give up on him. The patient complained that his original source of pain was in his lower abdomen. Dr. House discovered that the patient had epilepsy that can occur on the side of the brain that may not be clear on a regular EEG. Come to find out, the patient had been diagnosed incorrectly and epilepsy was the source of his pain. I know that I have not had an EEG, but this may be something that some of us on the board may be able to benefit from. Its Hollywood and Dr. House, but I just thought I would throw it out there in case it could help someone.

Thanks for the info Ladies.  That is hopeful.  Possibly writing to Dr.Phil's suggestion board on his site would be a good idea. We may be asked to be on the show as sufferers, but that is getting ahead of myself.

That is wonderful news ! I'm hearing that Dr. OZ was on Good Morning America the other day and he mentioned D-Ribose for both fibro and CFS... something that I have taken and I've frequently mentioned. I'm happy that fibro and CFS are getting more exposure.

Dr. Teitelbaum posted on his website that he is trying to get Dr. Oz involved.  I believe he said Dr. Oz referenced Dr. T's work in his new book.  This is a start.

I know that Dr. Phil said that "yes... these "syndromes" (fibro/ CFS) are very real". They spoke with a woman who has fibromyaglia and then followed up with her after she saw Dr. Jacob Teitelbaum. She was much better after her visit with Teitelbaum.

I know that Oprah is busy and all... but I do wish that Dr. OZ would do a piece on fibro & CFS. I know that he recently watched a movie about lyme disease that blew his mind. I know if he research fibro & CFS... he would speak out about these conditions and be more involved.

It still makes me angry that shows like House, Dr. Phil, Oprah, have not made an issue of this dreded illness.  I believe there was one show on yearssss ago about a man, who lost everything, family, career, and was interviewed about CFS.

It is so previlant now, and affects so many lives in such a devastating way that you would think that an "Fibromyalgia Awareness" show SHOULD be done.

Oh I know...I was livid and contacted everyone I could think about.  Then found out so did thousands of others, lol.  It really made a bad impression for those suffering.  I'm so glad you got to see the good version though and it gave you some insight into other dx's as well.

Take care and stay safe.

I tried to watch it, but our local station was having some real sound issues.

Maybe the producers were trying to correct an error they made a few years back.  I believe it was in 2004, House was with a patient complaining of fibro.  He left he room, proceeded to a candy dispenser (w/small oval mints), got them, put them in a pill bottle and gave it to the patient.  I'm thinking they took a whole lot of slack about that particular show.

I'm glad to see they took a change of heart about this and made up for it.

I was excited that they mentioned that as a possibility as well! It made me wonder if epilepsy could be my diagnosis since I don't have one yet. Deedee, maybe they will show it again at another time.

I saw House last night.  What I liked was the fact that they even mentioned Fibromyalgia, then pretty much ruled it out as the patient's pain was relieved, not intensified when the pain area was touched.
