I have to have darkness to sleep..I use a sleep mask when i take a nap. I take one nap during the day, or i will have trouble making it to 9pm. ( i am retired)
i have to have some noise too..I use the radio..my husband found a light jazz station, and i set it to go off in an hour. this helps me. I also have a TV in my bedroom..sometimes i watch tv to help fall asleep..also set to go off in an hour.
you could try some aroma therapy..if your not sensitive to smells. try a lavender plug in. I went to a sewing trade show, and bought a sleep mask with flax seed and lavendar seeds in it..
you should also tell the Dr. what is happening, the meds may need to be adjusted..usually with anti-Dep, it takes a couple weeks for it to get into your system properly, but you should not be having trouble waking up...after all this time, unless, this is a problem you had prior to getting on your meds..
Good Luck!
I know exactly what you're talking about. For the more minor sounds, I found that the suggestion my naturopath had about using white noise to be helpful. There are different kinds of white noise CD's available with different sounds. If static is too irritating, there are some that sound more like a waterfall. To make a long story short, nothing works for obnoxious neighbors bent on making extreme noise and finding ways to get away with it. Telling me to wear earplugs with people like that, which the management actually did at one time, is inappropriate and insensitive.
Try searching online for white noise. Some of them have some free MP3 files you can download. Some of them have some free samples for you to listen to and decide for yourself if the sound will work. A couple of them had a combined sampler on one album. I don't recommend this route, though, because with the one I can remember it turned out that each sample was only about three minutes long. You need ones that are at least 10 or 15 minutes long or longer. I did find one that was free that was approximately half an hour long. When the tracks are too short and you set your CD player to repeat that same track over and over all night long so you can sleep, you can hear the track cycling, so you want the longest tracks you can find. I finally ended up buying a couple of the tracks that were approximately an hour long each. Since I can't stand higher pitches, I opted for the lower pitched ones. One of them ended up sounding like a waterfall to myself and to other people, but I'm not sure what the origin of the sound was. I'm not sure if this option will work for you, but at least you can hear the samples for free to find out if you think you can stand them or not.

There are a lot out there that let you sample something that is at least a minute long, so you can decide if you like it or not. I found that it's worth a shot. Better than more drugs anyway. I hope this idea will help. I can't remember who it was that mentioned that static drives them nuts, but it doesn't all sound like static. If it was you, sorry. You know, the whole brain fog thing.
Not sleeping and hearing every sound truly drives me crazy. My husband tells me to try and lay there with my eyes closed but that doesn't work, so I don't know.
I have a problem similar to what deedee332 experiences. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who hears every little sound.
thanks for your reply i have noticed most people on here hve sleeping issues but most of them have a hard time getting any sleep??? i do get insomnia at times but more sleeping heavy and for longer periods then the insomnia, curious to know if all fibro/cfs just have insomnia????
many thanks

Sorry about that. My problem is that I don't sleep at all and when I think that I am asleep I can hear every little sound. The pain normally wakes me up 1am, 2am, 3am. So I truly can't relate. I don't know what that's all about. Sure hope that you can get help with that. God Bless You
