Daughter Can't Swallow Food Anymore

My 12-year old daughter has been having lots of trouble swallowing food as of late. I have had her chew her food thoroughly, not twist her neck while trying to swallow, and having her eat in complete peace and silence in hopes that these simple measures will help, but to no avail. Every meal is shortly interrupted by her crying because she is hungry and the food won't go down. It is NOT acid reflux because she has no burning sensation - just the inability to have the food pass smoothly from her mouth to her stomach.

I know that the first reaction will be, "Take her to the doctor!" but since we have no medical insurance I am trying to limit the number of trips she may possibly need. Any thoughts or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Some people with acid reflux do not have the 'standard' symptoms, so reflux is still a possibility. However, there are other issues such as eosinophilic esophagitis that can cause similar problems as those you're describing. Problem is, no matter what the condition is, you're going to need a doc to help you find out what's going on. Call your local hospital and see if they have any programs they can help you out with as far as getting some treatment for her.

I think a trip to the doctor now, may save you from many in the future.
