To answer your question, I've seen mucus before in my stool, but it has been very long since I've seen such. It does not look like mucus though, and more like small threads.
You do not have to eat out to get worms and unless you have done a treatment it is likely you have them.
This is a very interesting thread. Obviously I don't eat out much. That happens when one is on a budget and has food sensitivities and allergies.
Anal itching is also a major symptom of pinworms, the stuff is Called, PinX if I remember right.
Pinworms are an epidemic. I've heard it's super easy to get them at restaurants when cooks don't wash their hands properly. I now take antipinworm meds as a matter of course once per year at least. I heard Dr.'s sometimes do this with their kids 2-3 times per year for safety's sake. Yes threads are likely worms.
Pinworm medsk, about 9 dollars at Wallgreens if I remember that's where I found them last time.
If it's mucus, then for sure it's likely the dietary issue as suggested. Often a food sensitivity is involved when this happens. So, I would suggest seeing a naturopath for proper guidance on doing an elimination diet to find out what those food sensitivities are. Food sensitivities are not the same thing as true food allergies, so an allergist can't diagnose these as food allergies. It is important to investigate food sensitivities before you develop new or worse symptoms.
In this video here, you will see why it's important to discover and get food intolerances or sensitivities under control:

It explains what other problems can stem from not doing this. Gluten is one of the top food intolerances that leads to other food sensitivities. True, the video explains the difference between gluten intolerance and sensitivity. Other food intolerances can still be called food sensitivities, though, because it is still a difference between a food allergy and a food sensitivity. The distinction in terminology is very important concerning gluten issues, though, in order to avoid any sort of confusion in the gluten free world.
Do take action now if this is the cause of your symptoms, because you do not want to have worse issues, like auto immune issues.
I get this too. Were some of the threads one their own, separate from the stool and hanging down from the surface of the water? It's mucus. Can be caused by a variety of things, the simplest being diet.
It did sound like worms i would get some meds to make sure they are gone , not certain if they sell OTC but ask in the drug store
