Upper Abdominal Pain for >3months

by mycatmew, Jan 09, 2009 02:26PM
I have had upper abdominal pain pretty much constantly for over 3 months.  It is also accompanied by nausea.  The pain and nausea get worse when I eat.  I also occasionally get really sharp pains in my back on the right side.  These pains only last a short time.  I have had blood tests including amylase and lipase, an upper GI endoscopy, abdominal ultrasound, hida scan, gastric emptying study, CT scan, and MRCP.  All of these have come back completely normal.  My GI doc says that he has no idea what is wrong with me.  The next thing he wants to send me for is an endoscopic ultrasound, but he says it's likely that at some point I will need my gall bladder removed.  Gall bladder problems run in my family, but the tests don't seem to point to the gall bladder.  In fact they point nowhere.  Should I just go ahead and get my gall bladder removed and see if that makes it better?

NEVER JUST HAVE ANYTHING REMOVED!!,,,BUT YES IT DOES SOUND LIKE GULLBLADDER (gallbladder) PROBLEMS TO ME ALSO.
JUST BECAUSE YOU HAVE NO STONES DOES NOT MEAN YOU DO NOT HAVE PROBLEMS.

Has your doctor also done the Hida Scan with CCK injection. It shows the actual fraction that the Gallbladder is working. It is a better indicator if gallbladder needs to be removed or not.  Also, I would not remove Gallbladder unless you have stones or it is not working properly. I have had mine removed and it seems to not always help with pain and it gives you more symtoms including more diarrhea and you have to eat a very low fat diet or it causes dumping syndrome ( as soon as you eat a high fat meal you have to run to bathroom to have an explosive bm) Yuck, I know but true!
