Referred for outpatient appointment

Had a fair bit of problems with frequent bowel movements and the blood work the GP has done has all came back clear.

Basically due to the frequency of how often my bowels can move, I end up taking between 4 and 6 loperamide tablets most days just to be able to go about my daily business.

Anyway, I've now been referred as an outpatient to the hospital gastroenterology department.

Can anyone advise what will happen at the first appointment?

Thanks for the reply. I was tested by the GP a few months ago for gluten intolerances etc and those tests came back clear.

That's why I have been referred to the hospital for an outpatient appointment.

Your self-medicating is not a good way to solve this problem as it is not a healthy med to take frequently.

I think you are reacting to a food such as dairy or gluten or something like that.  Alternatively it is possible you have a bacterial problem in your gut.

The first visit with the specialist will involve taking a history and having a physical exam.  The doctor will ask questions and then recommend tests to find out what's going on.  The tests will be scheduled and there may be preps involved, but you need this information to get healthy.
