stomach removed feb 2005

Iam 56 years old and had my stomach removed in 2005.  Through my life I have had uncountable surgeries tryng to save my stomach.  I finally had to stop working in 2000 due to the effect of dumping sydrome.  I am now house bound and on ssi disability due to my unability to work.  I do not absorb nutrients suggcessfully and would like to know how to better that.  I am in constant pain and just live with it.  I have had several years of therapy and still continue.  I need some way to work from home and have had no success.  I would like to help others in my situation.

Thank you, debmc52

I strongly agree with the person above me.  You really should find such a nutritionist.  But remember, most registered dieatians are NOT into holitic health and will not advice you eat a vegan diet.  They know only what they learned in college, and nothing more.  I have a master's degree in nutrition but have been retired for 20 years due to my own health problems.  I have been studying holisitic medicine, and not tradtional, ever since.

Debmc, call your doc and ask for a referral to a nutritionist who has worked with those who have experienced stomach removal. Working with that problem takes a bit of 'tweaking' and you'll need some help to work out how to best handle the situation.

Hi, I'm a nutritionist.  I'm not a doctor.  I have never had a patient who had their stomach removed.  First of all, I'm so sorry to hear of your problems.  You are suffering so much, and I feel for you.  I have heard that, if a person gets their stomach removed, another one will grow back in it's place.  Have you ever been told this?  Also, you should be taking a nutritionial supplement in liquid form.  Here is what I recommend.

"Nutritech" brand 'All One' multi vitamin and mineral powder.  If you are a man, get the "Rice Base" one because it is iron-free.  If you are a woman, get one with iron. (before you place an order for this, look on the Nutritech web site and pick out which your going to order if your a woman.)

Flax Oil.  Either Barlean's brand or Spectrum's brand.  Take 1 tablespoon per 100 pounds of body weight that you have.

If your a woman, you'll also need this.  If your a man, you don't.  "Liquid 'Target-Min' Calcium/magnesium/vitaminD3" by Country Life.  Take 1 capfull.

Try calling Swanson Health Products to order all 3 of the above.  Their number is 1-800-437-4148.  If they don't have the Liquid Cal/mag/vitD3, see if your health food store has it.  If not, I'm sure they'll order it for you.

Add all 3 items above to 8 ounces of soymilk or regular milk that is low-fat or fat-free.  Also add 1/2 cup of fresh or frozen blueberry's.  (Blueberry's have more anti-oxidants than all the fruits on the planet).  Blend in a blender and drink 1 of these every day.  If using regular milk, you can add a little bit of sweetener to this.  Soymilk is already lightly sweetened.

Your doctor has probably told you that your stomach mainly produced hydrocholoric acid.  1 drop of this can burn a hole through your carpet.  It is mainly needed to digest fats and proteins.  You might consider becoming a vegan now ( I would).  A vegan is someone who eats no meat of any kind (incl. no poultry and fish) or dairy.  Stay away from greasy fried foods too.  Eat only whole, natural plant foods like whole wheat bread, whole wheat noodles, brown rice, oatmeal, vegetables, fruits, beans, etc.  Find a book on being a vegan.  Also, I would take a digestive enzyme if I were you.  The best one I know of is called, "Omega-Zyme" by Garden of Life.  You might be able to order it at Swanson's too.

Please feel free to post here if you have anymore questions.  And God bless you!
