Bleeding From Rectum

Twice in the past week I have had abdominal pain/cramping, similar to a period.  (Hysterectomy 5 years ago).  Also gagging and felt like throwing up.  I went to the bathroom to urinate and found bright red blood coming from my rectum.  In both cases the bowl was bright red, so I am thinking it was quite a bit. I have had loose bowel movements for months now.  Any ideas??? I am a 53 year old woman.

I had a hysterectomy 5 years ago.  I have never had problems with hemmoroids either, no straining to go, have not had a colonoscopy ever!

Have you had a colonoscopy lately?  You should see a doctor for the correct info.  I have had some bright red blood from my rectum after having a bowel movement.  The doctor informed me that bright red blood indicates possible hemmoroids near the opening of the rectum and if it is dark, dark like coffee grounds, that indicates there are problems farther up the colon and needs attention immediately.  Good luck.

Hello i am not a nurse but my mum is and i know for a fact that if you have any bleeding from the rectal area ( reguardless of how much or little or how red it was) you must visit your doctor ! a.s.a.p.
I know this is a delicate and embarassing part of the body to talk about but if your doctor is a man request to see any female doctor at your surgery. The first thing your doctor will require is a sample give you a pot and you will be able to do this bit in private at home .
I am sure you are worrying but do not ignore it as this will not make it go away or get better . Left alone these things only get worse ! so my advice is get to your Doctors alittle embarassment is better than leaving it to it's own fate. So as not to over worry you it could be something as simple as a Polyp in the rectum that has burst or you may have been very constipated and passed a large stool. You do not say whether your periods have stopped , but if they have and given your history of surgery then on all these counts get checked out as soon as you can !! Do Not Leave It !!

Look after yourself we are very lucky in this country to have the NHS and  get to see a doctor free of charge .  x
