help!!! very worried

Hello. I just made the mistake of looking something up on the Internet and completely panicking myself and as it is the weekend I can not ring my doctor.  I am 10 weeks pregnant and have always been anemic. Unfortunately I have had really bad experience with my doctors who have been completely useless and are only just prescribing me my medication on monday. Will 10 weeks without it have an effect on my child or will it be ok as I will start my meds on Monday???

Don't panic.
With my first pregnancy I was extremely ill and the doctor thought I had stomach flu.  I had to have an injection to stop the vomiting as I wasn't able to even drink even a sip of water without throwing up.

I too was very anaemic and even on iron and folic acid for a couple of months my levels were still not high enough.  Eventually the blood levels were fine.

My baby was born fine, normal and healthy.

With anaemia you are probably experiencing loss of appetite.  Eat a healthy and well balanced diet with dairy foods for strong bones and teeth with fresh fruit and veg.  Follow the dietary advice of your doctor.  You probably already know the foods that have lots of iron.

Make sure that you get your sleep at night time and take a nap in the afternoon if you feel tired.

You are doing well by eating small portions often.  Choose your foods wisely so that you get the minerals and vitamins that your body needs.

With the meds that your doctor will prescribe for you and slowly as your red corpuscles increase, you will start to feel better and gain back your appetite.

You may find that drinks like Complan may help  Complan is specially formulated to provide essential nutrients, giving you the nutrition of a balanced light meal in a tasty drink, when you're off your food.  Don't know if you have that where you live.

wishing you all the best. xxx

Thank you both so much for your help. I found some awful things. It's my own fault for looking looking rather than waiting to talk to my my doctor.  I have been taking prenatal vitamins since my 4th week.  Thank you again. Xxxx

Hey! Congrats on your pregnancy! :))

Bless your heart, I hate you are so worried. You'll be fine until Monday. If you are taking your prenatal vitamins, just continue taking them as they have a little bit of iron in them already and eat iron-rich foods like meat and seafood, beans, raisins, bran cereals, enriched bread/whole wheat bread.
Also, relax and enjoy every minute of your pregnancy. It goes by so fast. Take care of yourself, for the health of you and your baby.
Have a good night and Monday will be here before you know it and you'll feel so much better after your appointment. It'll feel like a load has been lifted! :))
XOXO,
Crystal, RN

Have you been taking a pre-natal vitamin?  If not, you can buy pre-natal vitamins at any pharmacy.   Always use caution when researching health issues on the internet because you will mostly find the worst case scenarios that may not apply to you.  I take iron supplements (ferrous sulfate) for my anemia and pre-natal vitamins already contain iron.  Make sure you do not take too much iron.
