random pains? plz help

I have “episodes”.  They can last a couple of days to a couple of weeks, the periods in between can last from two weeks to 6 weeks.  During the breaks, I feel pretty good, with normal movement.  During episodes, I have random pains throughout my body.  Those pains range from very mild to very intense.  The pains only last a few seconds and moving the affected body part will help alleviate the pains.  In a thirty minute time period, I will have pain in more than thirty parts of my body with some parts hurting more than once in that thirty minutes.  I have been having these episodes for at least a couple of years.  During an episode, I stumble a lot and feel weak and very unsteady on my feet.  I often experience my vision shimmering and going from a resting position to an active position I am very stiff for a couple of minutes.

Any thoughts would be appreciated because my Doctor cannot explain it.

It does sound very mysterious!  Sorry I don't have any suggestions for you, other than to find another neurologist.

There is great variety in doctors' training, skills, and experience, and you need a fresh look.  Most insurance plans or medical groups have a tertiary care center where they send the hard to diagnose patients.  Often, this is a university hospital or research center. Since your neuro and neurosurgeon are stumped, they should have already referred you to someone else.  But if they haven't, definitely ask. They cannot deny you a referral if they cannot help you.

I have been reading about newly identified disorders related to nerve pain. Most doctors didn't learn about this in medical school as it is a frontier of medicine.  You might ask for a neuro who specializes in nerve pain.

I hope you get some answers soon!

I have been to 3 GP's, nuerologist, and a nuerosurgeon, just wondering if any one else has these problems and what diagnosis they have been given.

I have had a MRI of the brain and cervical MRI.  Brain results were not remarkable and cervical shows two herniated disc and one bulging dics but nuerosurgeon does not feel it is causing my problems.

What tests has your doctor done?  Have you been evaluated by a neurologist or a rheumatologist?  These symptoms could be from an autoimmune disorder or a neurological problem.

Since you are still having these attacks after two years, you definitely need another opinion.
