my chiropodist told me to soak the nail in vinegar water twice a week.
When that didn't work, he prescribed a solution from the pharmacy that i painted on the nail for about a year and it worked.

Hello! I wanted to tell you about a good website I found for you. Google "Howstuffworks" and look for "Top 10 Treatments for Yellow Nails". Have a great day!  JD1963

Hi! I would get a consultation with a Podiatrist for the correct medication. I have heard (I am a Orthopedic/ Podiatry Surgical First Assistant) some patients mention some home treatments such as Hydrogen Peroxide, baking soda and even denture cleaners to help with the appearance while waiting for the Meds to take effect. The thing about toenails is although they are in the same family as skin, they are completely comprised of dead cells. That being said, you will have to wait for the newer nail to grow out. Hope this helps some! Best Wishes!

ANYTHING you use will take a year. The nail has to grow out.  Prescription oral pills can kill you, but they are easy - once a day for three months, then wait a year to see how they worked. Otherwise, use Vicks Vap-o-Rub every day until the nail clears up.  The last patient that convinced me to prescribe the oral antifungal medicine for her "ugly toenails" developed hepatitis from the medicine after a month (I am glad I tested her for it) and it took four months before her liver returned to normal. I thought for a few months that maybe I had killed her trying to treat her toenail fungus just because I had given in to her demands because she was so disgusted with her ugly toenails. Never again will I prescribe that medication for ugly nails.
