Hocking Up Brown Clumps

Lately when I try to hock up phlem that I can feel in my throat area, I've also been hocking up little brown, soft clumps.  I tried looking into what it could be myself, but anything I found about coughing up clumps had nothing really about brown clumps, but rather yellow stinky ones. And mine are cleary not a yellowish color, nor do they smell. They are fairly small but I have been hocking them up more frequently, sometimes as much as four to five clumps in a day. I really could use any help or suggestions on what might be causing it or if there's and infection or problem.

I was thinking about blood too.  I'm really leaning towards an infection of some sort, although I am no expert.  :)

Yep, you're right.  Phlegm is normal when one has it once in a while.  ;)

That's what I thought at first, but it's quite soft and smushes, not really like dried blood.
But I plan on making an appointment soon.
Thanks both of you :)

No, I've never smoked. I only used to have phlegm once in awhile, which is supposed to be normal. But since I started getting these, its been almost daily.

My first instinct is to ask if you are a smoker??  Have you had this type of phlegm before??  Do you have phlegm on a regular basis or is this a first time occurrence??  Do you have any kind of pain involved, either in your chest or throat??
