Princess.
No I'm not on any medicines. I'd like to think I walk enough. I'm a waitress so I'm always walking then at home I do a lot outside so I get some more walking in. Do you think that's enough? Roughage foods? I'm sorry I'm not familiar with that term. Thank you I'll look into that and consult with a doctor. Yea I try not to wait but sometimes I have to due to work. For about a week now I've been having the urge to go. So I go to the bathroom and I can't :(.
Are you taking any medications that you make you constipated?
As well as water, some form of exercise like walking and also consuming roughage foods should be able to help you.
Movicol and Macrogol are oral power compounds that are mixed with water and consumed either in one go or throughout the day. Both these contain the same ingredients. The compound makes the faeces softer and easier to pass, giving you relief from constipation. The compound also contains electrolytes to help maintain your body's normal levels of sodium, potassium and water while you are being treated for constipation.
Before taking any medications for constipation, it would be wise to see your doctor to rule out any abnormalities in your bowels.
If you have an urge to go, do not hold it and go to empty your bowels. Holding on when wanting to go can constipate you as well as certain foods. Some people get constipated by chocolate.
Best wishes.
Roughage foods are foods that contain a lot of fibre:-
potato skins, cabbage, sprouts, fruit with skin on, oranges, most fruit, prunes, cereals like porridge, bran, seeds, nuts, sweet corn, lettuce, grapes, etc.
If you do not go when the body wants to empty itself, this makes it hard again and difficult to go. Straining to go to empty the bowels can cause internal and external haemorrhoids and fissures (tear in the colon). Haemorrhoids and fissures can bleed.
You can buy over the counter glycerine suppositories that you insert into the back passage and this will help if you are not able to empty your bowels. There are also creams for the anus if you experience problems with haemorrhoids.
If you are drinking lots of water (2-3 litres per day) and eating high fibre (roughage) foods and exercising in the form of walking and still having a problem to empty the bowels, it is a good idea to see your doctor to make sure that you do not have any problems in the bowel. As we age we can get diverticular disease and these are little pockets along the bowel that can sometimes get blocked up and cause a lot of pain when infected.
Hope you get sorted soon.
Best wishes.
