Mouth sores and then some

My wife in the last week has had an outbreak of canker sores in her mouth.  She has had them before, but never so many at once.  Then, in the last couple days, she has developed two sores on her genitals.  She went to the doctor and they did a test for herpes, but is there anything else this could be?  We have been manogamous for nine years and prior to that we both used a condom with our sexual partners (for her this only involved on encounter).  I have never had any symptoms.  We are both confused and worried, as we are still waiting on test results.  Are the mouth and genital sores related?  I have been told in the past that canker sores are not a form of herpes.  Thanks for any help you can provide.

Hello,
In response to your post, are you sure that the sores are actually canker sores or does there happen to be any white patches in her mouth, or on her tongue? Is her tongue sore? Almost have the feeling of ingesting something too hot. I have been dealing with very low blood count issues for the past year, in fact I just posted today concerning a procedure I am scheduled for this week. Upon seeing my physican this a.m. I questioned why my mouth is so sore, I also have what I believe to be a slight yeast infection in the genital area. The explaination I was given was that because I am so iron deficient my immune system is not working properly. This may not be the case for your wife but it may be something to check into.

Thank you for your response.  The sores do seem to be canker sores in her mouth, although her tongue is also sore.  She also feels like she may have a slight yeast infection.  I suppose she could be iron deficient because she does not eat many high in iron foods.  Since my post she has talked to her doctore and had a blood test, although the doctor states that most people have a positive blood test for herpes since it can exist in many forms.  Good luck with your upcoming procedure, and thank you again for your input.  Though, not the worst thing that can happen, the thought of herpes has really distressed my wife, and any alternative gives her hope.
