Salty Taste

I have been experiencing cracked, peeling lips and a very salty taste in my mouth for approx 2 yrs. I have been to GP, ENT (who has put me on a round of steroids and want an MRI to brain, Dentist (worried about gold crown) Gastro, you name it and am so frustrated.  Have Post Nasal Drip but ENT blew that off, looking for a taste disorder.
Calling Dentist today to see if Gold Crown touches old filling and if that could cause this.  Starts as soon as I brush my teeth.  Tried plain toothpaste, rinsing very well.  No avail...

Yes, water will make it worse and we use filtered water.  I am having the MRI tomorrow to see if there is anything in my brain that could be causing this.
Having a colonoscopy on Tues. and will mention the H.pylori to him.  I will go after anything I can find as I know it is ruining my lips in this process too.
Thanks for your input as I take every bit of help I can get to figure this out.

Hello, I did some research on this and found a few possibilities and things to try for you.  Since this happens after brushing the first was a woman with the salty taste etc.  who claimed her's had been caused by water (yes plain old out of the tap, water) she started using distilled water to make her coffee, tea, rinse after brushing etc. and her salty taste etc. problem went away.

Another had it for many years too and went to a Gastroentrologist  (GI Doctor) who ran some tests on her and determined that she had H. pylori  which is a bacteria, once treated the problem went away.

There are suggestions that it is caused by disease or infections of the salivary gland such as Sjogren's syndrome or bacterial infection, sialadenitis. A dentist needs to be seen for the infection.

Also dehydration from not drinking enough or drinking too much coffee, tea, or alcohol could be the cause or post nasal drip which you do have or tears entering the nasal cavity-which is very uncommon or be a side effect of a medication you could be taking and smoking has also been contributed to the problem.

Like I said since yours starts after brushing I'd try the water thing first and go from there.  It may not help but certainly can't hurt.  Personally I think if it was the post nasal drip you would wake up with the taste but it could have to do with it draining more upon standing?

Good Luck.   I Hope This Helps.  Keep me posted on what you find out please.
