Woke up with pain in joints and headach, dizziness, nausea, and a temp of 101. Then, all of this began to wane, and by late afternoon. All was fine. Temp dropped to 96.1

Hard to say, my first thought was the flu, but you say it has passed and you are fine now. I would take it easy the rest of the day though, and if it returns, I would see your doctor.
