Tuberculosis

I found out today that a  lady who attends my church (sits about five benches up from me) has been diagnosed with Tuberculosis and has been quarentended in the local hospital. My questions are:

1)   Am and I and my family at risk for this infection?
2)   Should we go be tested for TB?
3)   Is Tuberculosis curable (I am allergic to penicillin)?
4)   Is there a chance that I could die?

I have read an article at the Mayo Clinic's website that says that Tuberculosis isn't extremely contagious, but that goes against everything I have ever heard about it. I also read that many people die each year from this infection. I am feeling overwhelmed and don't want to have TB, but I am trying to remain calm so if I have been exposed, my immune system will not be stressed anymore than usual. =)

Please respond ASAP!!!!

One worker at Bath shipyards infected 356 others, so there is some reason to be concerned.

That being said, tuberculosis is not always contagious. You have stated facts which may not be facts.

The best answer would be to contact your local department of public health and the hospital where this woman is being treated.

Generally, if there is exposure they want to know, and will provide free testing.

P.S.- I don't have any symptoms, but right now is probably too early to determine whether I may be infected using symptoms.... It has only been two days since I last saw her.
