What's this Smell?

I'm 18 years old and my period started when I was 15. Ever since it started, every month a couple of days before my period, I start to get a weird smell. Not fishy like a yeast infection, but kind of like the smell you'd get if you let a pad on to long. The smell dosn't go away until a couple of days after my period is gone. I don't understand why I get this smell, I have really good hygene. I get a shower and it doesn't get any better. I can't use any sort of vaginal douche because I am extremely sensitive to that stuff. I'm on birth control pills (because I bleed really heavy, but I'm a virgin), but I don't think they would cause it. Is it normal to smell weird down there during this time of month?

Don't worry about the weird smell the couple of days before a period and shortly afterwards.

Keep up with the good hygiene by washing in the morning and again before going to bed.  You could have a change of underwear mid day or wear a panty liner.  Do not use any vaginal douche, this will change the PH level in the vagina and lead to other problems.  Don't apply any talcum powder either.  Only use a mild soap or one that is not perfumed and suitable for sensitive skins.

It may be worth using a non-biological washing detergent that is not highly perfumed as this may be interacting with your body odours.  Also use cotton underwear and not nylon panties or thongs.

Best wishes.

It's normal to have that "weird smell", everyone has it. You aren't doing anything wrong and there's nothing to be worried about.

it is perfectly normal to smell the hormones just before and after you period.   I wouldn't worry about it - just keep doing what you're doing - keep it clean.  Don't use deodorant or perfume down there - could cause problems.
There are feminine deodorant sprays that some use - however, i would spray the pad (the part away from your body) if you use it.
