Why does my esophagus/ chest area burns when I drink water?

For about a few months now, the inside of my chest/ esophagus burns every time I drink water. My family has a reverse osmosis filter in the house, and they refuse to get it checked. (Tap water is too salty to drink in my area). An hour ago I insisted that they have it checked and they started flipping out for whatever reason. I'm just curious what this could be? It has occasionally happened with other sources of water, but never bottled water. I think it may be Acid Reflux, but I'm leaning more towards it being the water.

What are your opinions on this? Should I see a doctor? I don't particularly have a history of tonsillitis in my family.

My first thought is acid reflux. Try some of the otc stuff and see if it goes away. Give it a few weeks though. If it continues see your dr. Keep a log of what you eat and drink. Certain foods and drinks trigger acid reflux.
