blood in stool

My 11 year old granddaughter sometimes has blood in her stool, sometimes not.  I know she sometimes strains to have a bowel movement and then again sometimes not. She has not started her period.  What do you think is the cause of these once or twice a week small pink spots on the tissue after a bowel movement?  Sometimes she says she has strained and others she says she hasn't. Puzzled grandmother.

Thanks so much for the advice.  That's kind of what I thought too, but you know how grandmas worry.

She needs a little more fibre. Not too much. Maybe a half teaspoon of metamucil a day. To much causes constipation.  Prune juice and apple juice are stool softeners. Dehydration is also a common cause of conspipation. An extra two glasses of water with a little lemon and a dash of hot sauce a day will be helpful.
