frequent urge to urinate

Hello. For the last couple of days I have not been able to sleep because I have to wake up 2 to 3 time a night to use the bathroom and during the day, especially when I am sitting I feel the urge to pee. I have no burning and when I got I do not feel like I need to go more but after a few minutes I feel like I need to go again. It started when I was on my period but I don't know if that'd just a coincidence or not. I'm going to the doctor in 2 days but I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem. And I am a 22 yr old female.

Frequent urination is often a sign of a UTI (infection), sometimes due to poor hygiene but there may be other causes (eg. are you pregnant and expecting delivery shortly?).

You are doing the right thing in seeing your doctor.

You may have a urinary infection.  The doctor will check your urine to see if there is any infection.

If you have diabetes, frequent urination can be due to uncontrolled high sugar levels.

Even though you are peeing a lot, still drink plenty of water - no more than 2 litres a day.  Don't drink too much in the evening to avoid waking up in the middle of the night.  If you do have an infection, you are still likely to wake up wanting to go.

Keep an eye on your urine to see if it is darker than usual, has a strong smell, or is cloudy.  Urinate into a clean glass jar to observe what it looks like.  It is best to do a mid urine sample.  The morning sample is the better one to get your doctor to examine.  Pee a little into the toilet pan and then into the glass jar and finish off emptying the bladder into the toilet.

Let me know how you get on.
