Agree with caregiver. Third time you tried to pierce this ear? I am sure you might have aggrevated some scar tissue and now the area is infected. PHYSICIAN ASAP.
With due respects, this is not something you should be treating yourself. You need to see a physician (with an M.D. next to his name) immediately. Don't give it "a few more days".
You should go back to your piercer and show them your ears and see what they have to say. If it's just an allergy and you went to a professional shop, they'll have no problem swapping the jewelry out for you to something else, and they can make recommendations for aftercare. If you got your ears done at a mall kiosk... well, I feel for you. Go find yourself a reputable piercing/tattoo shop and don't ever look back at those silly stands in the mall.
It sounds like you're probably allergic to the jewelry they pierced you with, so ask for surgical steel or titanium rather than anything with nickel or gold (the most common allergens). It might also have been as simple as the piercer putting your earring backs on too tight and not allowing for swelling (which is natural and necessary). Since this is your third time piercing your ears, you'll have a tougher time healing. If you want to keep them, you'll have to accept that your healing time will be tougher and longer this time around.
You do want to clean your ears a few times a day, but don't over-clean - you'll only irritate your piercing and things will get worse. A small knot around a new piercing is normal and should go away... if it doesn't go away within a week or two or your piercing, or gets bigger, go see someone about it because it might be keloids (scar tissue deposits).
Infection and irritation are different, as are irritation and allergy. Don't get mixed up by the terms =) Don't use Neosporin or first aid creams on your piercings unless you want them to heal up and CLOSE. Use water and anti-bacterial soap, and soak with sea salt rinses 1-2 times a day for the first few weeks to aid your body's natural defense at pushing out infection and bacteria.
Check out this link, it's pretty good general advice: http://tattoo.about.com/cs/beginners/l/blpiercingtlc.htm

It is an infection. You probably should take the earrings out and let it heal. Clean it with disinfectant and put neosporin on the holes. If it doesn't look better in a day or two, go to the doctor.
I am alergic to most metals so if I wear jewlery of mixed metlal I will break out, sore, swollen and sometime a rash like. Doctors have seen it all -- go and get taken care of
