HIV DUO is also known as 'Fourth generation ELISA'
I've contacted the HIV aids support line many times and each time they have confirmed that the HIV duo test is used in Ontario!
Sorry for the confusion and thanks for the clarification.
The poster is from Canada.
It is officially used in Sweden, and presumably in the UK.
Not approved in Canada or the US. Don't even see where it is approved in France.
one example is: Alere Determine HIV-1/2 Ag/Ab Combo
it's a combo and it actually gives a result after 15 minutes.
would appreciate your input on that Teak.
There are combo tests (which test for both antigens and antibodies) that provide a result after 20 minutes.
Not sure if these are the same as POC rapid tests though but 20 minutes is rapid enough i guess.
Probably someone more experienced can give their opinion about this.
Thanks alot for the info. I found out that this the only test that the clinics use here in Ontario. However I called the clinic that offers the Point Of Care rapid test as I wanted to find out if they also have the DUO and she had no idea. She was going to ask a nurse but they were all busy. My question is, do you know if the POC rapid tests are also DUO or no?
Thank you so much.
No I didn't. Is that what I should ask for as they may not know it as a DUO test?
Thanks alot.
Did you ask for an antigen, antibody combined test?
Thanks so much. I gave them a call and they didn't seem to know what a DUO test was. Does this mean that they are not offered in Ottawa? Just wondering if anyone knows as I have no idea.
Thanks

You will have to ask your doctor or call your local clinic who will advise you on where to go to have this test.By the way I think that is an excellent method of testing,a DUO at 4 weeks followed by an antibody test at 12 weeks for a 100% conclusive result.Way to go.All the best.
