If you live in the US the answer is no.
Although those are encouraging statistics the risk is still not non-existent as Mike said... do you think I should spend the money and get tested for HIV2 or just drop it? The lymph nodes seem to be getting worse and I've been kind of nauseated lately... even then it might/would probably show up on the HIV1 test, should i get an HIV2 test? Please tell me what you think!!
Sorry tiping mistake
most of modern test search for hiv 1/2 and since the antobodies tests does look for antibodies not for a virus type, in the 90%% of the cases hiv2 is picked up by hiv 1 only test (becouse the antibodies are pretty alike), no need to worry, hiv2 prevalence outside sub saharian africa is less than 0,1%, thats 1of 1000 of hiv infected people has hiv2 outside subsaharian africa. so in the US where 1 million of people is infected ther would only be around 1000 people with hiv2, and in the UK the there is stimated to be like 65000 hiv positive people only be 66 hiv2 infected people
Both take it easy, most of modern test search for hiv 1/2 and since the antobodies test does look for antibodies not for a virus type, in the 90%% of the cases hiv2 is picked up by hiv 1 only test, no need to worry, hiv2 prevalence outside sub saharian africa is less than 0,001%, thats 1of 10000 of hiv infected people has hiv2 outside subsaharian africa.
Just google it, typing HIV duo test - __________ (Your place or nearest big city)
I am not sure about Tests in U.S. Here in U.K, all private clinics provide HIV duo test.
How did you get a Duo test? I don't even know where to go to get an HIV2 test, or if its even warranted here?
Did your test come back negative?
I am from U.K. I have the same doubt. No doubt that HIV2 prevalence rate in U.S and U.K are very low compared to HIV1. It is said that HIV2 is prevalent in western African countries. The worry comes when thinking that HIV2 rates in U.S nd U.K are low but not zero (non-existence)..
I had Hiv duo test 37 days after exposure. it looks for both HIV1&2 ANTIBODY and P24 antigen (Not sure this antigen is common to both 1 and 2 or just 1).
