HIV Risk? Freaking Out!

Hi everyone, i'm currently having a hard time here and really need some insight and information regarding this. 2 weeks ago i had a colonoscopy, for unrelated issues. I read online that you could possibly get hiv from a colonoscopy which scares me really bad. Starting about 3 days ago Saturday i woke up with a pounding headache that advil wouldn't calm. On Sunday it was gone until later in the day around 5pm when it came back and i started feeling really hot but i was cold. On monday i woke up with the same headache and feeling hot but i also had body aches, pain in my knees feet and hands. I ended up taking my temperature and it was 99.9 and went up to 103.3 by the end of the night on monday. I woke up in the middle of the night soaked in sweat as if someone dumped water on me. I went to the doctor and was told i had the flu. now this is what freaks me out. it has been two weeks since and now i came down with a flu like illness. i can't believe this and i'm going crazy, could this really be happening to me? or is this just a coincidence? the fever, the body aches, the soaking night sweats the one night, and the headache. should i really worry about this? should i get tested? i'm so scared that this could be a possibility and now i regret having the colonoscopy. someone please help me!

You're in luck, because there is no risk of HIV from a colonoscopy. In an adult, the only way you can be infected is through unprotected anal/vaginal sex with an HIV infected person or by sharing IV drug needles with an HIV infected user.

HIV is not able to spread on surfaces and intimate objects. Exposure to air immediately starts damaging the outer shell of the virus, which makes it unable to attach to anything to be able to infect.

You need to realize that this is literally the height of the flu season. I work in an office where currently there are 10 out of 25 people right now out due to the flu, including my boss. It's been going around like crazy and that's why it's totally not shocking at all that you caught it. Learn how to get OCD about washing your hands and using hand sanitizer during flu season to avoid getting sick while everyone else catches it. And get a flu shot.
