It's expensive to take Prep. They recommend the following people to take it:
1. men who have sex with men
2. heterosexual men and women who have high-risk exposure (such as having a partner with known HIV infection, exchanging sex for drugs or money, or having sex with a person at high risk for HIV)
3. people who inject drugs
4. transgender women.
If you are not in one of these 4 groups, they will likely not recommend it. I think it is becoming more mainstream to take though so talk to your doctor. Without insurance covering it, it is 2000 dollars a month and copays with insurance can be a couple hundred a month. Worth it though if you are in a high risk group. https://www.health.harvard.edu/blog/prep-prevents-hiv-so-why-arent-more-people-taking-it-2019100417942
Hello~The best answer that I can give is to just ask him/her and say how concerned you are and that you want this treatment.
