I will be the first HIV poster for sure

I'm a heterosexual man that performed unprotected oral sex and had about a minute of unprotected vaginal sex with a girl of unknown sexual history.

I had symptoms of Clymidia so got tested for that AND HIV just 6 days later.  I was just positive for Clymidia.  However, on day 8 i started having bad muscle/joint aches and tiredness that lasted 5 days, which I tried to attribute to the severe anxiety that I was feeling.  However, today is day 15, and I woke up with one visibly large lymph node under my left armpit.  It is warm and sore.  I do not have a fever, though (yet).  I have no other large lymph nodes.  I have come to acceptance that I have definately acquired HIV.  My enlarged lymph node is not imaginary and very obvious.

I get tested at 4 weeks, am I am certain that I will be the first HIV+ poster here.

Anyone with a similar scenario that ended up negative may give me the boost of energy that I need.

I had that lump in my underarm checked out by the doc.  The doc said it is likely a fatty deposit since it is superficial and seems attached to the skin rather than my muscle tissue.  So swollen lymph nodes are ruled out.

I'm still waiting for the six week mark for my final test - another 2.5 weeks.   My first was was insignificant at just 5 days.

DC,

Absolutely she could have gotten her test results on the same day. There are several tests, using saliva or blood as the testing medium, that give results in as little as 20 minutes. And they are just as reliable as the regular antibody tests.

So, the answer to your question is, yes, she could have tested and gotten her test results on the same day.

The girl i slept with called me to tell me she tested to reassure me and she said that she was negative.  However, she got the results the same day that she tested.  Is that even possible?  Now i think she is just telling me that she tested so that I don't annoy her.  Can testing be done that quick?

First of all, symptoms really mean nothing without test results.  From your exposure, your chances of catching anything are slim, HIV in particular 1 in millions.  In addition, the average person has a misconception about what a swollen lymph node is.  Often times you may be able to feel nodes throughout various parts of your body (sizes vary).  Since this is the case, you really have to have a physician examine you to determine whether swelling is abnormal.  From your entire description, the chances you have HIV are very very low, probably in 1 in millions range.  Many people have been in the same boat as you, with a very similar story.  Not one of these stories have ended up with a bad outcome.  The likelihood you have HIV is very, very low.  Try and relax.

Dr. H has stated repeatedly on the Prevention forum that a single enlarged lymph node (if that's even what you have, which you can't be totally sure about until a doctor examines it) isn't enough -- the ARS symptoms generally present with many nodes, both enlarged and painful, so it sounds like you have nothing to worry about.  And of course they're almost always accompanied by fever.

I too was convinced for a while that I'd be the first positive poster here, despite having protected sex, just because of the many symptoms that I seemed to have that matched ARS... but every time it's turned out clean, and all the symptoms were attributable to something else entirely.  Please, for the sake of your health, try to relax and let go of these worries, as it's the only way you'll start to feel better.

The usual disclaimer applies, sexually active people usually need testing once a year or so anyway, but based on this isolated incident you're almost certainly not infected.  HIV is much more difficult to acquire than people seem to think...

To get this right, I seem to only have one enlarged (externally visable) lymph node.  But lets say the others are enlarged too, but I can't see them.  These lymph nodes enlargement should not be worried about because it has not been accompanied by a fever which means that it is NOT ARS?

"enlarged lymph nose"???

Good grief, I need coffee.

There are dozens of reasons for an enlarged lymph nose, all of them way more common than HIV.  You had a very low risk exposure, anyway.  Go read some of the posts on the regular HIV forum.

My son had a golf ball size lymph node appear one time out of the blue, very red and sore.  It stayed for several weeks until he finally had it biopsied.  It was simply just "reactive lymphadenitis" and no cause was ever ascertained.

Go do some reading on the HIV forum.

Also, the doc has said, no fever = no ARS.  And... a fever is the first of all symptoms to show.

Well, one lympth node is probably not going to do it in terms of HIV infection. In general, primary HIV infection will present with generalized lymph node enlargement. In other words, if we were talking about HIV infection, we'd be talking about enlarged lymph nodes all over your body, not just one. That's not how it works.

Ok, so you had unprotected sex. For about, how long? A very short time? Your chances of having acquired HIV from the exposure that you describe are very, very low. Probably on the order of you being hit by a bus on the way to work.

I know, easy to worry anyway. If you cannot put this behind you with time, go get a 6 week test, and then collect your negative result and put it behind you. The incident that you describe is not worth you worrying about.

Having said that, if you are sexually active, you should have an STD panel every year. If you haven't, then go get one and consider this your yearly HIV test. You will be negative, you will be reassured, you will go on with your life.

Take care of yourself,

Have you seen a post where somebody has had a huge lymph node and tested positive.  no...  Also, how do you know you have a swollen muscle under your arm pit (could be a pulled muscle).  Unfortunately, nobody on this forum can give you an answer but we (expecially the Doc) can help you with assessing your risk.

I can appreciate that my mind can create most symptoms, but i have that huge lymph node that is visibly noticable when I lift my arm up.  It is about one inch across (huge), and it is sore.  I don't even have to feel for it - I can see it.  I have not heard anyone yet state that they had such an obvious lymph node at the 15 day mark and say that they are negative after.

dc man:  Been playing on the "Jump to Conclusions" mat (ever seen Office Space)?  You need to collect your thoughts and take a deep breath.  If you search differnt posts you will realize that almost all people on this forum have had symptoms and then start to freak out!  Then look back and you will find them all to be negative.  I am still in the window period and am nervious too.  I have tested negative at 27 days and have had every symptom in the book.  I cannot say for sure but I am pretty positive my lymph nodes are/where swollen.  They are sore and I think its from me poking them all the time.  I have had diahria, 99.8 temp, sore muscles, tireness, mouth ulcers, and the list goes on and on and on and on...  My problem has been that I sit back and wait for things to pop up.  Then they do and I freak.  I have learned that the brain/anxiety can produce pretty much all of the ARS symptoms.

Anyway, my point is, you need to stay positive, realize that your chances are extremely low (regardless of symptoms).  Go grab a beer and enjoy your holiday!

I highly doubt that you will be HIV + from what you describe ....You chances are 1-2000 thats if the person even had HIV so the odds are in your favour.

I've only heard of one person ever posting that they were HIV + on these fourms and from what I hear people say that was a fake.

PS, I was sure I would be the first one to contact HIV and post it on these fourms, so was everyone else who posts here.

Im sure you will fine, good luck and God Bless.

But prior to my one minute of unprotected sex there was frottage and she had pubic stuble that was prickly.  Not feeling good about his.  Why such a large lymph node under my arm at exactly 15 days after possible infection.  I've never had such a thing!!  I think I'm going to collapse from fear.

There have been other HIV+ posters that I remember, especially several females. But your scenario seems almost impossible for HIV transmission.
