Window Period?

Hello,

just a question, do hiv 1 and 2 have the same window period? i tested after an exposure, and was told to get tested again 4 weeks later to be conclusive, i have done both tests now, but have become worried about hiv2 because online it says it is slower to progress.

So, do hiv 1 and 2 have the same window period? Or is it possible that the hiv2 window period is longer and i should retest again because the test was only conclusive for hiv1?

thanks!

Heterosexual sex, i am a woman. Fourth generation test after 1 week, and then again 4 weeks later (so 5 weeks). My question is really about the antibodies though, do they have the same window period as each other? Or is just HIV1 conclusive and not hiv2?

Short answer: your test is conclusive for both.  4th generation tests are highly accurate at 4 weeks or more post-event.
thanks, so no worry about hiv 2 antibodies coming up later?
No - that test is considered to be more than 99.8% conclusive for all types of HIV by experts, when taken 28+ post-event.  There aren't many, if any, tests on the market for any disease that are that accurate.
Also, unless you were having intercourse in western Africa, the chances of encountering HIV-2 are extraordinarily slim.

What was your risk and what kind of test did you use and after how many days?
