Mono misdiagnosed - Really HIV?

by sweetie92998, Dec 18, 2006 12:00AM
I have only selpt with one guy, we were in a long term relationship, I was his first (we were 17ish) we were together for over a year. A few times the condom broke and then we didn't use a condom after a while.
However this is my QUESTION:
About 4 months after we got together I was dianosed with Mono, I went to the doctor and took a blood test. However, I google HIV and noticed the the early stages of HIV are mono like. In those four months we were using condoms but they broke a few times (I know a few time is a lot, but we didn't know what we were doing I dont think). I dont think he was at risk for having HIV but now that I dont like him anyone, its in my head that he could have and I didn't know...
Have you ever hear of Mono blood test being wrong and it was actually HIV? Do you think it is possible?

Thank you! I am a bit of a worryer and just started worrying about HIV after googling the sympthoms.

No, a mono test, tests for mono only. Have you ever had an HIV test? If you are sexually active you should have one annually and also and HIV test.

Mono is Mono, not HIV.  Mono is a horrible illness, I remember it clearly.  Get HIV out of your head.  If you want some reassurance, you can get a test done at your docs office or at a local health clinic.  Testing is fast, painless.  You dont need to think for any reason you have HIV, unless your ex is a known IV drug user or has sex with other men.  However, when you do become sexually active, most health care specialists recommend yearly testing.

Again, no reason you have to worry about having HIV just because of MONO.  Mono is mono, period!

Pls learn from the lesson, use more reliable condom. We all should learn and not repeat the same mistakes that later may scare the hell out of us.

Can someone please explain this to me...How do you get Mono this many times? I thought you couldn't get it but once...& then remain a carrier? Is it possible to keep getting it...if so how??
