Need Piece of Mind

I started having unprotected sex with a new girlfriend from the first week of June until the end of July. All together probably 20-25 times during that period all unprotected.  I wasn't too worried about it at first, as I knew she had not been with many guys.  I found out after the fact that one of the guys she dated and had unprotected sex with (before me) has a reputation of sleeping around a lot.  I was scared to death after I found that out.  I went right to my doctor and had a full std test done.  I was negative for both std's and hiv, but was told I need to come back for a follow up hiv test at the 6 month point.  That seems so far away and my stress and anxiety is killing me.  At the point of my hiv test it had been 10 weeks since we started having sex, and a few days shy of 3 weeks since the last time we had sex.  I am so scared right now. I learned my lesson and will never do anything like this again.  I could really use some positive feedback.  Is that a good sign that I was negative at that point?

3 months post exposure is when you can obtain your conclusive test result.

3 months post exposure from when we started having sex? Or since the last time we had sex?

From the last unprotected sex you had.

if you had unprotected sex through the end of july...then it has NOT been 10 weeks.

The time the test took place was 10 weeks from the "start" of having sex (begining of June) and a "few days shy of 3 weeks" (end of July) since the last time we had sex.

3 months post your LAST unprotected intercourse will give you a reliable and conclusive result.

Well that's better than the 6 months my Doctor told me.  But still not soon enough.  It's killing me.  I'm having serious anxiety about it.  I will never do this again without being in a long term relationship with someone that I know very well.

a test at 6-8 weeks post your last exposure will give you a very good indication of your status...and highly unlikely to change at that point.

follow up at 3 months

Thanks! That is so good to hear.  I will do exactly that.  This coming week will be 6 weeks since my last encounter with her. I am praying for good results.  I just want to put this behind me and move on.

Even if she did have HIV, which I highly doubt she does (if she's not an IV drug user or sleeps with gay men) your chances even sleeping with her unprotected are probably not high you have contracted anything like HIV.

If you're circumcised and you don't have STD that causes open sores, even if you did happen to sleep with someone HIV positive, from what I understand your chances are slim to acquire it especially if there was no blood contact when having sex.

Thank you! I just felt so much better reading this.  I'm going to get retested this week, and am really nervous, but reading this made me feel a lot better.

It doesn,t matter how slim the chances of hiv infection are,you still require testing.3 months is conclusive, 6 months is outdated. All the best.

I would put money on it that your test will be negative if the girl doesn't use and share IV drugs, doesn't sleep with people who do, and doesn't sleep with gay men.

When you avoid people who do not engage in these activities the chances of happening upon someone who is HIV infected are just simply not very good at all.

I have taken countless number of HIV tests over the last 15 years.  With the exception of a couple of times I have always used the Home Access test.  It's private and anonymous and you have your test results the next day. (excluding weekends and holidays)

It's interesting to me that when you call to register your ID number they ask you to answer a couple of questions which are:

1) Do you have sex with females
2) Do you have sex with males
3) Are you an IV drug user

It would seem to me they ask these questions to compare the answers with the test results.  I think they are trying to see how many people come up positive that, at least claim, they only have sex with females.  I figure since the test and the results are completely anonymous, as there is NO way they can identify who took which test and who the people are that send in the tests, that people would be more likely to be honest with their answers

it would be interesting to me if Home Access would put out statistics on how many people who answer YES only to having sex with females actually come back with a positive result.

Good luck with everything, and I would put money on a negative test result for you if you don't use IV drugs, don't sleep with someone who uses IV drugs, are not gay, and don't sleep with any female who does sleep with gay males.

So although I have not cleared the 6-8 week window with my last sexual encounter with her, does it look good for me that I HAD more than cleared the 6-8 week window when I originally tested negative from my test on August 15th?  All of my risky encounters that I am worried about all came with just this one person.
