Not sure if I should post this here or on living with hiv...

I have a niece who is hiv positive, diagnosed two months ago. She also has hashimoto's thyroiditis. She had a thyroid ultrasound and a biopsy and they want to remove her thyroid due to possible cancer of the thyroid. I feel so dumb asking this, but just wondered if hiv positive people can have chemo and radiation. I know thyroid cancer is quite treatable and she has two children who need here. Any info. would be great.

Teak...do you have any insight on this? I have read a ton this afternoon and I feel like I have given her good advice. That with proper treatment of hiv she can live a long life and that thyroid cancer caught early is easily treatable and that hiv positive individuals have gone through cancer treatment and have since lived long lives. Just wondered about your thoughts, you seem to really know what you are talking about.

It looks like you need to talk to an expert like an  HIV or cancer specialist. Maybe Teak could be of help to resolve this issue.

I thought about that, but not sure if the cancer forum would be well equipped to answer the hiv portion of the question. After reading several things on this forum I do feel that Teak or Lizzie Lou might have some insight.
