No, HIV is not transmitted by oral sex, period or not.
As you have already been advised, you never had a risk to start with and you never required nPEP,time to move on,it's great to be back.
Hi Nurse Girl ... the doctor did that because nPEP could be either you take 1pill of atripla every night or (2 pills of combivir and 4 pills of kaletra) ...
to be honest i'm not sure about anything anymore ... ! i just want this nightmare to end ...
For nPEP to be fully effective, it needs to be taken exactly as prescribed with no missed doses. I don't understand why a doc would replace 6 missing pills with one?
The GOOD news is, you didn't need the nPEP to begin with because you're not going to get HIV from your encounter.
Good Morning ... I am back from holidays ( of course i forgot my medicine for PEP there) so i went to an ID here and he gave me 1 pill of Atripla to be taken at night instead of 6 pills of combivir and Kaletra ... (until they send me back mine from switzerland ) do u think that would affect my PEP?
Good reply. Doc are best for final decision.
ashler...no one said to disregard the advice of the physician, the point is being made that most docs would never agree to nPEP for a scenario like the OPs, because the risks of nPEP FAR outweigh any benefit (for minimizing the possibility of HIV infection for a no risk situation). BIG difference. We're certainly permitted to disagree with the assessment of someone's physician. I would tell the OP to consult with an ID doc who has ample experience working with HIV patients and see what they say about nPEP.
OP, you've gotten great advice from Teak. There's nothing more we can tell you. If you feel that nPEP was the right choice, then so be it. We're just given you factual info.
Feel free to post on our expert forum, I'm pretty sure the docs will share our opinion.

Move on he never had an exposure.
You did the right thing by seeking a second opinion, and if the Dr (probably and HIV expert, I suppose) advised PEP, then he must have his reasons.
From medhelp (read at the bottom of this page): "Never disregard the medical advice of your physician or health professional, or delay in seeking such advice, because of something you read on this Site".
Good luck!
The only possible thing you may get is kidney failure or possibly screw up your liver for a no risk issue.
Hi Teak, i actually did find someone and to be honest at the checkpoint (HIV free center they told me there is no need), i wanted to get a second opinion so i went to the university hospital in switzerland ( i am on vacation) and they recommended i start PEP) although the course costed me 1296 francs approx same value in dollars +343 for the doctors consultation and blood test ... i thought better be safe than sorry ( who knows i might be the 1 over 10,000 .... after i came to my hotel i called my doctor back home and he told me that he needs to see me when i am back and re assess the situation ... but he said for the time being continue the treatment ...
No doctor advised nPEP for oral sex and if you found one to so you found someone that is a quack.
Hi Teak, i went to the university hospital in switzerland and the doctor said that despite the low risk its better i go for PEP .. he gave me combivir and kaletra ... only i want to say that despite my decision to take PEP and i hope i will be able to handle it ... your answer gives me peace that there is almost no chance i get hiv from oral sex ...
No debating but where are all the comments go? I'm really confused.
I am not giving my opinion and posted links . These links are of CDC, Australian federation of AIDS Organisation and studies of health system UK and with lots of reported cases. I have not cited any personal research paper these all are government links. I am not trying to create scene but please go through first link and read that pdf please and this pdf is full of reported cases with time and no of cases infected.
Ok since it is stance of medhelp forum I wont debate further.
and These all above mentioned doctors are saying risk is very low and rare but happens. I myself performed three sec. oral on csw and now suffering that's why please ask hiv doctors . Mine was almost rare but my cd4 ratio is totally inverted which happen only in infected people so you still have chance to avoid that
I am not
expert here and that's why suggesting him to ask doctors and hiv transmission routes are everywhere reported. Is CDC making people fool by reporting oral sex and exposure.
Dr HHH is saying that risk is low but not zero.

This is a very few list and lots of available on internet again
I am totally not interested in any debate and respect Teak but with such lots of available sources I am being cautious.
Teak when Dr HHH and Dr Hook and Dr Sean says that Duo test is conclusive then you don't agree but here you agree. On Hiv test you agree on CDC guideline but don't agree on their guideline about oral sex and risk? Although the risk is low but risk is here.
If he is positive then there may be risk. Even go on CDC site and you will find that oral is considered low risk means chances are there. If he was not on med means virus load must be high so why to take chances. Its your life so better ask hiv specialist or other expert doctors . Only expert doctors will give you answers.
There is a blog "not going back"where one lady is claiming she got hiv through oral sex and in poz forum just surf through I just tested positive and go through pages you will find some persons claiming oral as only exposure so decision is yours. Even if you surf through different sites all says it is very low risk since very few cases are reported in this manner but there are reported cases. And risk increase since your partner was hiv positive and not on medicine. People here might not agree with me but please ask doctors who are specialist in these area.
