What is the side effect of PEP treatment? Will it leave permanent harm to our health?
How long is it safe to have baby after the last dose of PEP?
The replication is stronger than the medication. nPEP is not a cure all and is NOT a 100 percent effective.
So, if PEP didn't work, why would that be?
Would it be because it was taken to late which made it ineffective in stopping the virus from replicating? Sorry, for all the questions.
Stops the replication of the virus.
How does PEP actually work? Does it destroy infected T-cells?
Or, attack virus particles before they have infected T-cells?
Up to 72 hours is the guideline. No one can tell you if those people would have contracted HIV without taking nPEP.
Im confused. I spoke to a specialist at the hospital today and claims that you can take PEP upto a week after potential exposure. She said they say 72 hours to stop people from abusing the system and turning up 6-7 days after exposure. She did add that its more effective the sooner it is taken but can still be helpful when taken later.
She also said EVERYBODY (in the UK) who started PEP within 24 hours of potential exposure tested negative 3 months later. Apprently this was from a published paper.
She answered alot of questions for me. But, some of it does contradict what I have read in various forums.
the posters questions were not about whether nPEP is 100% effective...they were about the effects of nPEP on seroconversion.
he stated (if pep didnt work) so he is well aware that it is not a definite thing.
The median for nPEP is 86 percent and most people that are given nPEP don't finish taking it or didn't need it in the first place.
NO. nPEP keeps you from seroconverting. Most people that are infected don't have any symptoms so don't go looking for them.
