Cause for Conern

Last Friday I was drunk and in a lack of judgement I had insertive anal sex with another man. The encounter was very quick (<2 minutes) before I realized what I was putting myself at risk of. We both stopped and there was no sign of blood, tissue tears, or other STDs on my penis. We both showered right away and in the morning we talked about HIV and he swears he was negative and hasn't had sex since his last test 6 months ago. I didn't go on PEP right away but went to my doctor 60 hours later who put me on monotherapy of Kaletra. Obviously I'm worried about infection and wish I would've started PEP earlier than 60 hours post-exposure. I realize unprotected sex is risky no matter what and it only takes 1 encounter or exposure. My question is, give the short duration and that I was the insertive partner what are the chances I was infected? What is the effectiveness of PEP at 60 hours post-exposure? I am getting an RNA PCR test done, how accurate can I expect it to be at 10 days post-exposure? Thanks in advance

I appreciate the stat, that will provide some comfort for the 3 month period I have to wait to know my results.

Thanks for the quick response Teak. I plan on continuing out the nPEP regardless of the answers to my following questions. My doctor seemed certain the chances of me contracting HIV from this exposure was low. In fact there was some hesitation to even put me on PEP. However he said it was a free sample so I might as well. I'd like to know so that I can sleep better and not get psycho-sematic symptoms like others do what the true chances are of contracting HIV from my exposure? Also, if the person lied about their negative status (or didn't really know) how effective is PEP at 60 hours? I know they are just stats, no guarantee, and nothing can be for sure until the 3 month test but it would keep me from stressing to the point where I get all the psycho-sematic symptoms worried people seem to develop.

Not reliable at all since you are on nPEP. You need to test 3 months after your last dose of nPEP.
