Is it serious?

Hi everyone... this started in FEB 2010 when suddenly fainted after standing up.....just for abt 2 mins.
Since then i experience symptome like lightedness, dizziness, and breathless, especially when i am walking or climbing stairs. I cannot go at hot places or sunlight(these symptoms get more). I have had an echo done in august 2009 and some other thyroid tests told by a cardiologist. Is my problem anxiety??  My dad is a doctor and says itz not a big problem. But i am a bit worried. Please help me thnx.
Note: before feb 2010 i could run well....and these symptoms were not present !! and I am 18 years old

Do not forget none of us perfectly in one thing or the other even if we would like to be or claimed to be.:) A chosen profession if we like it, love it is a blessing. A future doctor just like anybody else from the beginning since he starts his study can have many problems physical and emotional. But he forced by his goal which is to became a real professional, to be more self discipline.
We all build our character for worst or better, and often we can benefit from our shortness of something, even form a not perfect health, because we can gain more ambition from it!:) It is up to us.
Best luck to you to achieve your dream!

Interesting what you said ,yes maybe POTS you have.?

As I understand people with heart disease have to be more careful also with hot. Hot weather never bothered me at all. I do love sunshine and spend a lot outdoor, doesn’t matter how hot is, and all I’ve heard was from others they are not ok with the hot temp, honestly sometimes I am questioning why? More like they are not fit physically and overweight for example, then they are puffing and muffing and saying it is because of their heart. But their heart itself even if they have heart disease would be fine with the hot if they would drop their many many plus kilos. Just my two cents.:)

I hope you are not developed heart desease, but 2009 was long time ago and you could, but again, I THINK AND HOPE YOU ARE OK! Still you can ask for another ECHO if it is giving you a peace of mind ,it worth to ask for.

I had 3 or 4 in one year ,in my first year in heart failure all were different  went better and better….after I had only once in a year for a while than none. Right now I am glad not to have one anymore because I feel well. My last ECHO was maybe 3-4 years ago and I feel better knowing the last was OK , I don’t like to think maybe it wouldn’t be perfect if they do it again ,so I just think the last was OK.
But for you, because you need that reassurance I say go for it!!

This is a more common condition than you think with 18 year olds and younger. As you mature, your hormones are all over the place and take longer in some people to settle down. I reckon in a year or 2, things will greatly improve.

I disagree to go to another cardiologist out of your father circle I would be hurt if my kids would do that (if I was a doctor) :) Family trust and honesty in a family is one of the most important things.
I would go in to yoga as I was telling you before, your mind ,spirit and healt would benefit from.
Also you should check on this book.

Hi there,

I don't think that your symptoms are DUE to anxiety.  Out of my experience we get symptoms and THEN get anxious about them!

If my dad was a Doctor, I would not go to him as he can not be subjective.  You could have POTS which means that sometimes when you are in a standing position, your blood pressure falls and cause you to faint!  You should go and see a Cardiologist - not a family member or friend of the family or anyone that your Dad knows.  Cardio can do a 24hr Holter ECG and hopefully you will have symptoms in that period and Holter can record it.  Or even a Tilt table test that would rule out or confirm POTS.

If Cardio has checked you out and there is nothing wrong with you and your blood pressure is okay, then you can go and see someone for anxiety and possible medication.

But at your age I would not just go with diagnosis of Anxiety and not get my heart, etc. checked out first.

Hope it helps :)

There are limited options with anxiety. There is counselling, there is medication, there are relaxation arts such as yoga etc. Beyond that, there is little which can be done. Medication in my opinion is a last resort because it's very addictive and not good to take long term.

You are very welcome.:)
As Ed said I am also saying relaxing is very important. You will run again, just give it some time. I was  a runner  many times in my life. At times I forced myself to start again because it was too damn hard. Best I can recommend  to you is yoga breathing. It sure was/is great for me and for many people.

Also don’t forget about relaxing music!:)

Anxiety is a common problem and give similar symptoms to heart and other problems. The worry adds to the anxiety and makes it worse. The thing to remember is that the anxiety is causing these problems and if you continue to worry and don't accept it, then you will cause real problems long term. People who get worried all the time and stressed are more likely to get heart disease later in life. You need to learn to relax.
