heart cath

I had a heart catheterization the place on my leg where they did the procedure has a severe bruise. Is this normal and how long will it last?

i am not sure with that because that is normal but please check with your doctor he would know best

Hi Hubbert,

Yes, it is absolutely normal and it should be completely gone in about a week's time.  When they take the catheter out they apply a lot of pressure to that area to stop the bleeding.

You will also have a bit of a lump/bump in the groin area for about 3 months!  not painful, but you will feel it.

I've had multiple caths, and sometimes I had little bruising, but once I had bruising that extended down to my knee.    When I got the huge bruise, it went away within a week or so.  I'm betting it is a benign situation, but do check with your doctor.  I hope the procedure resulted in good news.
