EKG Interpretations

Did a stress test overseas last month. Comments: Non specific ST segment change in the inferolateral leads at peak exercise. Abnormal Resting ECG (High QRS voltage) METS:14.00 at peak exercise.

Previously, from an echo, i was found to have mild LVH (IVSD 1.3, LA dimension 4.8, EF 77%, FS 46%) with mild left atrial enlargement and mildly thickened mitral valve with mild MR. I also had mild hypertension. Currently on anti-hypertensive meds (angiotension receptor blockers). No previous episodes of heart trouble except for occasional palpitations at night. What do the comments for my stress test mean? Thank you.

You have a good exercise capacity.  the abnormal resting EKG confirms what you already knew -- you have a mildly thick ventricle. You have changes with your EKG during activity are not specific for anything – meaning that do not definitely indicate to blockages and could be normal for someone with LVH.  A very thoughtful history and physical really helps determine how to interpret stress test results and avoid further testing unless necessary. It is probably best to see a doctor that has access to the results and discuss them.  LVH can sometimes cause non specific EKG changes.

I hope this helps.
