complications following heart ablation

My husband had ablation of the left atria that his cardiologist recommended due to atrial fib as he could not tell when he was in atria fib on March 10, 2011.  Within 72 hours after the procedure he had to be taken to the emergency room due to congestive heart failure.  It has continued to get worse and was evaluated by another cardiologist, whom was consulting with Mayo Clinic.  He and another cardiologist went in to see if they could do something to improve the flow of out flow of blood with a pace maker wire.  They also checked inside the heart as Mayo had suggested to see if there was any way of getting the left atria to respond.  What they found was a stiff left atria and that he was not going to improve with the wire pace.  My husband is 66 years of age and was active and running his one man business and can't even ride in the auto for a 2 hour trip without severe exhaustion.  Is there any other alternative that we need to seek out?  Thank you.

You mention a-fib but it seems like you also mentioned a problem with the muscle in the left atria.  You have to know the cause of the afib in order to treat it, as there are many options such as ablation, minimaze procedure, or 5 box minimaze.

If the underlying cause is the muscle disorder, what is causing the muscle disorder?  What's his formal diagnosis?  What's his heart rate with the afib?   What's his ejection fraction?
