Confused................again

Guys,

I was recently asked what the difference between:

HBV E-antigen - negative
HBV E-antigen – positive

and the other way around is........

Can you help me out.... still a bit confused. From what i think its the original results show the virus is  still within the body but not doing any damage whereas

HBV E-antigen - positive
HBV E-antigen – negative

means the virus is present and causing harm....

Is that correct?

and finally where one is positive the other has to be negative right? Can't have two of the same etc....

HBV E-antigen – positive, typically with high viral replication.

HBV E-antigen - negative, 75% of these patients have stable liver status and are labeled healthy or inactive carriers, 25% have viral change such HBeAg(-) no longer mean no viral activity.

Hope this helps.
